Limitations

Many of the limitations that we came across during the span of our project mainly revolved around the technical capabilities available to us (or lack of them). The limitations that could have contributed the most to our project include having a processor capable of handling higher levels of two dimensional flow data. Because area of study spans across multiple counties, the pixel size of the grid needed to be smaller to reduce the likelihood of a crash in the system.

In addition, because we did not have any prior knowledge to the HEC-RAS program, familiarizing ourselves with it took a considerable amount of time. If we had prior knowledge of the functionality of the software, the steps taken would have been much quicker and with diminished error in the process. In addition, the results would have came much quicker, leaving an additional amount of time to better analyse the results or delve further into better emergency plan results.

Lastly, because the information used or our two dimensional flow data relied so heavily on the DEM's used, a higher level resolution DEM data would have drastically improved the areas affected. Mores specifically, when we are dealing with highly developed areas, the flow model would have done a much more accurate and deailed job.
